PICA has had a couple of patents expire in the last few years and it was time to write some new ones to protect some of the technology that PICA has developed.
One notable patent recently filed is for the "Detection of local changes in the Stress-Strain state of metals"
This is an interesting patent because the technology can sense an increase or decrease in the local stress state of steel pipelines. For instance it can detect dents and wrinkles in steel pipelines (which cause a local increase in stress) and it can detect a reduction of the stress state of PCCP pipes when wires have cracked and released their compressive force on the steel cylinder.
